Thesign-stealing allegations against Michigan have become the biggest story in college football over the past week, with coaches across the sport being asked about the ethics of stealing opponents’ signals as new aspects of the story appear in the newsseemingly every day.

Current Michigan coaches and players cannot comment while the NCAA investigation is ongoing. But former Wolverines players can still speak to the media, and reporters can ask them what they think.

Aidan Hutchinson, who is close to the situation, is currently working about 40 miles away for the Lions. He also played at Michigan during one of the seasons under scrutiny from investigators and fans, and emerged as a standout player in 2021. On Thursday, the standout defensive end faced questions about the accusations.

“They’re doing all the research and they’re going to Michigan when Michigan has a chance to win the national championship this year. So I don’t know,” Hutchinson said, according to Wolverine Digest.

“People steal signs all the time in college football,” Hutchinson added. “People have stolen our signs. Other Big Ten schools have stolen our signs. It’s just one thing when you’re in college football, so I’d say, no more than anybody else has done it in my opinion.”

Hutchinson said he and his Wolverines teammates rarely saw Connor Stalions, the analyst theNCAA is focusing its investigation on.

Ultimately, Hutchinson hopes the Wolverines, currently rankedNo. 2 in the AP poll, will overcome the allegations and continue their pursuit of a Big Ten title and national championship.

“It is what it is,” Hutchinson said. “I guess time will pass and people will forget about it and move on when we’re [Big Ten] champions again.”
